Here's how we spent our Covid downtime.
When LIVE music came to a standstill, we took it online.
We LIVE streamed our own performances and created an online community where professional musicians, emerging artists and music lovers from across Australia and New Zealand could connect, perform and support each other.
We also helped original artists take their music beyond their own backyard, sending them on virtual tours all around the world.
To date, we have amassed over 6000 members collectively between both groups with all members combined - all brought together by one thing; a love of LIVE music.

MOOFEST
We hosted a talent youth competition at the Moofest held on the grounds at the Cudgen Leagues club in Kingscliff on the far north coast of NSW in 2018.
The Moosfest was a fabulous day with multiple bands playing throughout the day to raise moeny for the homeless.
The winner was Emmagen Rain at 10years of age who blew an entire football field away!

DID YOU KNOW? Apparently playing gigs, chasing venues, running DISTRACTION and generally causing musical mayhem wasn’t keeping us busy enough…
So somewhere along the way, we also became the creators & admins of the following:

I'm also appointed Moderator on the Northern Rivers Entertainment Scene group.
Why?
Because we bloody love live music.
We love seeing musicians get gigs, venues get crowds, audiences clap, events get noticed and people discover just how much talent is hiding around our region.
DISTRACTION isn’t just something we do on stage — we’ve been part of the music scene behind the scenes for years too. And somehow I still find time to make soap.

Provided sound and hosted festivals with the Tyalgum Hotel - Northern NSW and Tumbulgum Pub - Northern NSW doing sound for James Blundell; a celebrated Australian country music singer, songwriter, and cultural icon, known for shaping modern Australian country music.. That was fun!
Provided sound for 80's popstar, Australian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer Rick Price at the Westower Tavern West Ballina.
Provided sound for Dean Ray, an Australian singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer who rose to fame as the runner-up on The X Factor Australia in 2014.
ROCK 'ON RIVER CONCERT
ROCK ‘ON RIVER — JUNE 2022 In June 2022, we organised and coordinated ROCK ‘ON RIVER, an 11-hour live music concert at the Australian Hotel — the pub where I worked at the time.
It was also my 50th birthday, and when asked what I wanted, my answer was simple: a huge party, open to everyone.
Our region had barely emerged from the COVID years when devastating floods tore through the Northern Rivers. People had survived, people had lost everything, and everyone desperately needed a chance to let their hair down. So we brought together a massive line-up of bands and musicians, headlined by the Adam Hole Band, with local legends including Matty Rogers and Glenn Massey, plus a special appearance from Nyoman, then frontman of Sydney band Monkey Grunt, who flew up and joined us on stage with our full band, The Hustler and the Soundmen. People travelled from all over to be there, and for 11 hours the pub absolutely came alive.
Then came a moment I definitely hadn’t organised…
While Nyoman was singing a Bon Jovi ballad, Brad got down and asked me to marry him in front of everyone. So ROCK ‘ON RIVER became more than the concert we created. It was my 50th, our community’s big day out — and the day we got engaged. :)

When I’m not standing beside Brad belting out songs with DISTRACTION, there’s a pretty good chance I’m somewhere surrounded by oils, botanicals, clays, fragrances and a bench full of soap. Creating is my happy place. What started as a passion for making beautiful, handcrafted soaps in the early 2000's, has grown into an AROMA by DISTRACTION — APOTHECARY range, where I get to experiment, create and turn ideas into something completely different. From cold processed and botanical soaps to room & linen sprays, deodorants, beard and body products and all sorts of creations in between like an exquisite botanical armour oil for your car— I genuinely LOVE the whole process. The colours. The scents. The ingredients. The experimenting. And especially that moment when something I've imagined actually comes together. And because Aroma is part of the Distraction family, you'll often find a selection of my creations travelling to gigs with us on our DISTRACTION Promo Stand, or available by special request, or tucked into some of our Distraction Promo Bags alongside our band merch and goodies. So if you spot the stand at a gig, come over and have a look — or just ask us what I've been making lately. Chances are, there's something new.

What's in them?
We have our own DISTRACTION PROMO BAGS? And no… we didn't just chuck a few guitar picks in a bag and call it merchandise. Our Promo Bags bring together a bit of everything that is DISTRACTION — our music, our merch and Debi's slightly uncontrollable habit of creating things. Depending on the bag, you might find Distraction branded t-shirts, beanies, stubby coolers, guitar picks, stickers, bottle openers, keyrings and other goodies, alongside handcrafted products from the AROMA by DISTRACTION — APOTHECARY, such as botanical soaps, room sprays, deodorants and more. They're put together by us and make a pretty cool gift pack, supporter pack or little piece of DISTRACTION to take home from a gig. You'll see them featured on our Promo Stand at selected gigs, and they can also be put together by request. Because apparently just turning up, plugging in and playing music would have been far too simple for us. DISTRACTION. More than just a gig. LOL
